Audra McDonald's artistry is unmatched in her range of talents and variety as a singer, and performer. The winner of an incredible seven Tony Awards (two Grammy Awards) and an Emmy Award, McDonald was named to Time magazine's list of 100 people who are influential in 2015. She also received President Obama's National Medal of Arts for her work. She's equally comfortable on television, film as well as Broadway. Her luminous soprano will make her an ideal performer on the stage. Alongside her stage job, she is also pursuing an active career as a musician and recording artist. She performs regularly in some of the top venues around the world. McDonald was born in Fresno California to a music family, received her training in classical singing at New York's Juilliard School. In 1994, a year following her graduation from Juilliard School, McDonald won the Tony Award for "Best Performance of a Leading Actress the Musical" for Carousel. Over the next four years, she won two additional Tony Awards as a featured actress for her roles on Terrence Mcnally's Broadway debuts Master Class (1996) and Ragtime (1998). The total number of Tony Awards is unprecedented at 3 before the age of thirty. She took home her fourth Tony when she starred in A Raisin in the Sun alongside Sean Diddy Combs. Then in 2013, she took home her 5th Tony, and also her first in the leading actress category. The Sixth Tony in the year 2014 Billie Holiday's portrayal of the role Lady Day in Emerson's Bar & Grill was Broadway's most decorated show. In 2017, she was the first to make her West End London West End debut, and was also nominated for an Olivier Award. As well as recording the record for the highest number of awards won by actors in competition, she also became the first actor to be awarded awards in all four acting categories. Her other credits for theater includes The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (1999) Henry IV (2004) 110 in the Shade (2007) Twelfth Night (2009) in which she made the release of her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut, the show Shuffle Along or the Making of the Musical Sensation in 1921 as well as All That Followed (2016) Frankie and Johnny in Clair de Lune (2019) as well as Ohio State Murders (2023). McDonald first appeared on television as a dramatic actor on her role on the Peabody Award winner CBS series Having Our Say - The Delany Sisters' First 100 years. The year 1999 saw her co-starred with Kathy Bates in ABC's acclaimed remake of Annie. She also had a recurring part in NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit in the year 2000. The Bite is a drama with six seasons based around a pandemic, coproduced through Spectrum Originals & CBS Studios. The show featured her alongside Taylor Schilling & Steven Pasquale. The actress first appeared as U.S. attorney Liz Lawrence in 2009 on CBS's medical comedy The Good Wife in 2018 McDonald reprised the part (now named Liz Reddick) as a season regular on The Good Fight on Paramount+ receiving three Critics Choice Award nominations for her performance. The actress is a featured character in the HBO series The Gilded Age by Julian Fellowes.
